Own or rent
Own your website, or rent one?
Monthly website subscriptions cost little up front. Owning costs more on day one but you keep what you paid for. Here’s the honest side-by-side, including when renting is the better deal.
Side by side.
| Question | Own it (NXG) | Rent it (typical subscription) |
|---|---|---|
| Up front | Half the build price when you order, half before launch | Little or nothing |
| Each month | Your monthly plan (hosting and upkeep, or more) | The subscription, usually $199 to $399 (as of November 2026) |
| Who owns the site | You, once it’s paid off | Usually the provider |
| If you stop paying | Cancel the plan and take the site with you | With many, the site goes offline. Some hand it over; ask in writing |
| Contract | Month to month | Varies, from month to month to a year |
| Nevada rules | Your license number on every page, Nevada’s privacy notice | Ask whether they know NRS 624.720 |
The math over 3 years.
Own it
A Standard site, $2,500 paid once. Then the Hosting & Upkeep service plan, $150 for each month of hosting and upkeep, for 36 months. It pays for the service, not for the site: there’s no financing.
At the end: the site is yours, and you can keep the plan, move it or cancel.
Rent it
A subscription at $249 for each month, a common price as of November 2026, for 36 months: $8,964.
At the end: with many providers you still don’t own the site, and it stops when the payments do.
Your written quote confirms our prices. Subscriptions often bundle extra marketing, so compare what’s included, not just the monthly number.
When renting makes sense.
If you can’t spend a few thousand dollars up front, or you only need a site for a season or a single job, a subscription can be the right call. Pick one that lets you leave without a fee and hands over the site if you do.
If you plan to be in business for years, owning usually costs less over time, and the site keeps working for you whoever hosts it.
Ask any provider, us included.
- Who owns the site, the words and the photos if I leave?
- Can I take the site with me, and in what form?
- What happens to my domain name and my Google profile if I cancel?
- Is there a contract, a cancellation fee or a setup fee?
- Will my license number be on every page, as Nevada requires?
- Are the photos on my site my own jobs, or stock?
